LUIS ROBERTO ZAMORA BOLAÑOS
Doctor of Law
- Law Specialist: Administrative, labor, constitutional and protection of human rights.
- He challenged before the Supreme Court President Abel Pacheco's decision to support the Anglo-American Coalition that illegally invaded Iraq. The Supreme Court ruled that said support was unconstitutional, for violating the “value of peace”, the declaration of neutrality of Costa Rica and the United Nations International System.
- International Coordinator at the NGO Peace Boat, an organization that promotes international law and friendship between nations and peoples.
- PEACE BOAT received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 as part of the ICAN Campaign while he was in Japan and still a university student.
- He wrote his thesis on certain constitutional clauses as a Source of International Law.
- He graduated with a Law Degree in 2008. After completing his studies, he traveled to Ireland to specialize in Field Work on Human Rights in situations of armed conflict.
- He also managed to get the Supreme Court to annul President Arias' decree that allowed demonstrations to be repressed with equipment for national defense.
- Between 2016 and 2018 he was a lawyer in the process that achieved the legalization of marriage between people of the same sex.
- Since 2005, Zamora has participated in a large number of forums, events and conferences including; the World Social Forum (2003 and 2007), World Peace Forum (2005), was the Guest Speaker for the closing ceremony of the 62nd United Nations/Department of Public Information Conference on “Disarmament for Peace and Development” (2009). He was an invited speaker for the International Association of Democratic Jurists for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Stockholm Declaration (2010), and a Reference Expert for the V Asia-Pacific Bar Conference (2010). From 2012 to 2014, he represented the International Association of Democratic Jurists in Geneva during negotiations for a Declaration on the Right to Peace. He is a member of the International Association of Democratic Jurists, of the American Association of Jurists, of the Spanish Association for International Human Rights Law, of the International Association of Lawyers against Nuclear Weapons, member of the Committee of Lawyers against Nuclear Weapons , and consulting member of the “Brussels Tribunal for Justice in Iraq”.
- In 2012, it carried out Human Rights monitoring missions in the Gaza Strip, State of Palestine, and the Philippines.
- In 2014 he was appointed as Costa Rica's ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
